RemanufacturedIn StockAn industrial chiller is a closed-loop cooling machine that cools water or a water-glycol mixture through the evaporation-condensation cycle of a refrigerant. The chilled fluid is pumped to process equipment or air-handling coils, picks up heat, and returns to the chiller. The compressor, condenser, expansion valve and evaporator are its four core components.
An industrial chiller is a closed-loop mechanical cooling system that meets the cooling load required in manufacturing processes or large-scale air conditioning. It works on the principle that the refrigerant absorbs heat from water as it evaporates in the evaporator, is compressed in the compressor, and rejects heat to the surroundings as it condenses in the condenser. The chilled water is carried to the point of use by a pump loop.
Selecting the right chiller is not limited to capacity (kW) alone; the compressor type, refrigerant, condensing method (air/water), part-load efficiency (ESEER) and ambient conditions must all be evaluated together. A poorly chosen unit means both a high energy bill and frequent breakdowns.
Because air cooled chillers reject condensing heat directly to the air, they require no cooling tower, condenser-water pump or water-treatment infrastructure. This lowers both the initial investment and operating complexity. They are preferred in water-constrained regions and in projects that demand fast installation.
Modern air cooled units run far quieter and more efficiently than a few years ago, thanks to EC fans, inverter-driven scroll/screw compressors and microchannel condenser technologies. When equipped with a free cooling coil, their operating cost in cold climates approaches that of water cooled systems.
Because water cooled chillers can operate at a low condensing temperature through the cooling tower, they are the most efficient solution at high capacities. They are common in data centers, pharmaceutical and food plants, plastic injection and metalworking factories that run continuously under high load.
Water cooled units with centrifugal compressors (including oil-free magnetic-bearing Turbocor) provide both high efficiency and low vibration at capacities above 1,000 kW. Proper design of the tower, pump and water treatment is critical to the system’s service life and efficiency.
During selection, the real process load and diversity factor should be determined first, then the target water temperature and ambient design temperature should be clarified. Choosing a low-GWP refrigerant (R513A, R1234ze) secures both compliance with F-Gas regulations and long-term refrigerant availability.
Part-load efficiency (ESEER) reflects the range where the unit will operate for most of the year; it is just as important as nominal COP. In addition, spare-parts availability, the service network and lead time directly affect the total cost of ownership. Özsayın offers a brand-independent, impartial selection that takes all of these criteria into account.
